Consider & Be Still (Baby Goats in Wool Sweaters)

8 Come, consider the wonders of Yahweh, the astounding deeds he has done on earth; 9 he puts an end to the wars of the whole wide world, he breaks the bow, he snaps the spear, shields he burns in the fire. 10Be still and acknowledge that I am God, supreme over nations, supreme over the world.’

-Psalm 46:8-10

As I wander through this life it is easy to lose tract of Him. To forget there is this Glorious Creator who is responsible for all of the beauty I see in this world.

Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow James 1:17

He is with me, He is my light, He is the good that I see.

For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude; 1 Timothy 4:4

Yet, often I am blind to the beauty, to the light, to the good. I walk through life with blinders on, always focused on the next task on my to do list, on the latest gossip about my neighbours, on grasping for my wants. I become distracted from, and then oblivious to, the tiny miracles that occur daily.

And when I fail to recognize these tiny miracles for what they are; the beauty, love, and grace of the great Creator, I fail to recognize Him. I focus life inwards on myself. I no longer strive to live by the fruits of the Spirit but rather I live for my own interest. I lose my joy found only in Him.

Stopping to consider the miracles of spring buds, the kindness of a neighbour, or baby goats in wool sweaters; is stopping to recognize His beautiful creation. By revelling in the beauties around me I am merrymaking in Him; He who created it all! God doesn’t just occur in the big events, in the big miracles, he is active and interested in the every day deeds, tiny miracles that occur all around me. I need to be still and to consider the wonders of Yahweh.

My God is a big God, and he can do big things, but the more I read of scripture the more I realize that He loves to use little things to make big movements. He conquered Jericho with trumpets and Israel’s war cries, His only Son fed thousands with just a few fishes and loaves, and then, His Son conquered death. His Son who was born in a manager and raised by a carpenter and his wife, His Son who had made an ordinary life extraordinary by dying on a cross for my sins. My God is a great God, who uses the little, often ignored, everyday things to make for me a beautiful everlasting life.

Often, I sit and think “If only I could _______”, I would be filled with joy, life would be so much better, I could then love my God with all my heart. I wait for a big miracle, a grand deed, another season of life, to make me happier, more joyful. However, these big miracles are not going to grant me the happiness and joy I long for, because there will always be a next big miracle, another want, a new desire, rather I need to find my joy in Him right now. I need to find my joy in the tiny miracles and deeds of my every day.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

When I stop to consider the wonders of Yahweh, the astounding deeds he has done on earth, I am filled with joy, day in and day out, because these deeds are all around me! I witness miracles from the dawning of the morning sun through to the twinkling of the night stars. These miracles are in the everyday and as soon as I start to consider them I can Be still and acknowledge that He is God, which guides me to rediscover my joy in the God who loves me so much He surrounds me with His beauty.

Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you. Isaiah 12:6

I no longer doubt His love, when in awe of these wonders, because I know that nothing other than a great and wonderful God could create these tiny miracles, conduct these seemingly average deeds. I can love my God because I see the love He has for me, the love He has given to me, the love He made me capable of feeling.

And this is the hope that I have for HisMessageInABottle: That when a person who believes in Him, but forgets His greatness, happens upon His message that the forgetful believer will be prompted to consider and to be still. That they will, once again, know His love, find their joy in Him, and know that He is God, supreme over the world.

A Pray from His Message: John 6:44

Dear Father,

Please DRAW me to BELIEVE in the One you have SENT.

Allow me to come to your Son, Jesus, so that I may know You.

For I cannot know your Son unless you grant me the Truth through the workings of the Holy Spirit.

Although I desire faith, You are the One who gives it, the only One who I can ask for it from. Please allow faith to grow in me like a weed, so that I might BELIEVE and find my joy in You alone.  In faith, allow my joy, to flourish.

I ask that You allow me, to LIVE an everlasting life through You, Your Son, and the Holy Spirit, for you are 3 in 1.

You are the One true God, the creator of the Light, in You anything is possible.

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up on the last day.
– John 6:44

The Beginnings of HisMessageInABottle

Where do ideas come from? How does a tiny gesture to brighten the life of a friend turn into an idea spinning out of control? While, I’m not entirely sure how the brain functions with chemicals, neurons, and synapses- I know that an idea such as HisMessageInABottle, is not something that I am capable of thinking up on my own.

When HisMessageInABottle dawned on me, I was activley searching and thinking for something to do in preperation for Easter. Instead of being traditional and fasting for lent- I wanted to be active. I wanted to give up something far more precious than chocolate.

During this search I was also indulging in Elizabeth Elliot’s book, Shadows of the Almighty. It’s the story of Elizabeth’s husband Jim Elliot who lost his life while teaching about Christ. Jim Elliot’s story taught me about the value of telling people about Christ and how it is the duty of Christians to spread His Message.

So- late one night, while lying in bed, an idea was born. I was toying around with the idea of writing a note with a piece of scripture and a quote in it and then giving it to a friend in the form of a message in a bottle. The more I thought about the idea, the more I liked it. What is more exciting than finding a message in a bottle? Especially when one finds His Message in that bottle.

One small gesture began to grow into a much bigger idea! What if everyone could receive an unexpecteed message in a bottle? How can you share His Message without making the reciever uncomfortable? How can you purposedly focus small actions on Him? How can I share the gospel today and everyday?

With all that in mind HisMessageInABottle was born. The concept is simple, I have business cards with the HisMessageInABottle website and e-mail printed on them. During my bible study, as I find Scripture that strikes me, I write a verse or two onto a business card. This serves two purposes: 1. It helps me to memorize the scripture and 2. It will serve as ‘His Message In A Bottle’. I then pray over each Message. Praying that the reader of the Message may find their joy in Him and discover or renew their faith in Him. And then on my every day travels, whenever the mood strikes, I leave a card behind. My goal is to hide these cards in everyday places, for everyday people.

So that’s it. It’s not complicated. It’s not hard to do. But hopefully it will have a large impact on someone. If one person takes the time to think of Him then it will be entirely worth it.
